Tennessee Severe Weather Alert: Isolated Storms with Damaging Winds Possible in Memphis Until 10 p.m. Sunday

Memphis, Tenn. – Storms moving through West Tennessee this afternoon could intensify quickly, bringing damaging winds and large hail to parts of the region, including the Memphis metro area, through 10 p.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, isolated severe thunderstorms are expected to develop between noon and 10 p.m., moving from the southeast to the northwest. The primary threats include wind gusts over 60 mph, quarter-sized hail, and the potential for localized flooding due to training storms. A Level 1 marginal risk remains in place across much of southwest Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas.

Cities at risk include Memphis, Jackson, and Southaven, with the greatest potential for severe conditions south of I-40. Low-lying areas and poorly drained roads could flood quickly if storms repeatedly pass over the same areas.
