‘Movies on the Mall’ returns to Independence Mall with free outdoor film series

Looking to make your summer a bit more cinematic? Independence National Historical Park is welcoming the return of ‘Movies on the Mall,’ a free outdoor movie series that invites families, friends, and history enthusiasts to enjoy films under the stars on the iconic Independence Mall.

Following the program’s successful debut in 2024, which saw over 2,000 attendees, the 2025 series is expanding to four evenings, each celebrating themes tied to the rich history of Independence National Historical Park.

Each movie night will begin at dusk, with the pre-show festivities kicking off at 5:30 p.m., and every evening will feature 18th-century games, arts and crafts, and more. Liberty Garden will also be on hand, offering a variety of refreshments and beverages throughout the evening.

As for the film schedule, on Friday, June 20, the featured film will be ‘Harriet’ (2019), the story of Harriet Tubman and her escape from slavery through the dangerous missions she led to liberate hundreds of slaves through the Underground Railroad. Then, ‘Independence Day’ (1996), presented in partnership with Wawa Welcome America, hits the screen on Tuesday, July 1. The final two showings will thrill both film and history buffs as ‘National Treasure’ (2004) hits the screen on Friday, Aug. 22, and ‘National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets’ (2007) on Friday, Sept. 19…
