Big inning leads Missouri State past Indiana State on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – Missouri State utilized a six-run second inning to take control of Saturday’s game early and the Bears held off the Indiana State offense throughout the game in securing the 10-3 win at Hammons Field.

The Sycamores (22-28, 10-13) rallied back midway through the game with Jorge Cartagena connecting on a two-run home run to left field in the fourth inning to put Indiana State on the board. Eli Gipson scored on a two-base throwing error in the fifth to cut the Bears’ (27-21, 17-6) lead down to 6-3 in the middle frames.

Missouri State regained the momentum in the fifth on Caden Bogenpohl’s two-run home run to left to stretch the lead back to 8-3 and Zack Stewart and Tyler Epstein added RBI singles in the sixth to provide all the run support the Bears’ staff would need in securing the series win…
