Area letter carriers, Salvation Army team up for 33rd ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive

ELYRIA — Postal workers and the Salvation Army Elyria Corps teamed up Saturday to collect thousands of pounds of food donated through the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.

Stamp Out Hunger is the nation’s largest one day food drive according to the National Association of Letter Carriers, or NALC. Over the past 33 years, it has collected close to 2 billion pounds of food.

Mail trucks and personal vehicles dropped off bags and boxes throughout Saturday afternoon and into the early evening. Volunteers such as Brianna Williams, an Elyria High School senior, and Gary Thibo helped sort and box the donations for storage and eventual distribution…
