Michigan falls short in pitchers duels to Nebraska, drops series 2-1

Across its three-game weekend series against Nebraska, Michigan utilized just six pitchers. Between those six arms, the staff sported a 14/17 BB/K ratio. The Wolverines’ pitching staff was as consistent as ever — but without any support from its offense this consistency simply wasn’t enough.

In its penultimate series of the regular season, the Michigan baseball team (31-19 overall, 14-12 Big Ten) took on the Cornhuskers (26-25, 13-13). Looking to maintain a high RPI and keep their name in the conversation for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament, the Wolverines travelled to Nebraska searching for their third straight weekend sweep. Instead though, Michigan gave up just enough runs to fall to the Cornhuskers’ and drop the series, 2-1.

“Three pretty good baseball games,” Wolverines coach Tracy Smith said. “We just didn’t do a lot offensively. We pitched it really well. … There were just a couple plays here and there that let the series get away.”…
