Drunk driver slams into THP car, leads trooper on 100 mph chase down I-40, records show

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A drunk driver rammed a Tennessee Highway Patrol car and then led a state trooper on a high-speed chase down a Memphis interstate, according to court records.

The state trooper said it started just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning. The trooper saw a Hyundai Genesis Coupe going 75 mph in a 45 mph zone and tried, unsuccessfully, to pull the driver over. The trooper ran the temporary tag on that car, identified it as belonging to Randy Rodriguez, and started driving toward Rodriguez’s home on Tiffany Road, according to Rodriguez’s arrest affidavit.

While en route to the home, the trooper again saw the car near Reese Road and Whitten Road. Rodriguez allegedly sped away from the trooper again, driving into oncoming traffic. The trooper said they placed their patrol car in Rodriguez’s route and let the driver crash into the THP vehicle. According to the trooper, Rodriguez busted a U-turn and, again, sped away…
