The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office has become the sixth county agency in Tennessee to announce participation in a program with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) designed to allow local law enforcement to take on some limited federal duties.
The 287(g) program allows “designated officers to perform limited immigration law enforcement functions under ICE supervision,” according to a factsheet provided by ICE.
