City denies council member’s claim

Last week the San Bernardino City Council discussed in closed session, a $2 million claim by Council Member Treasure Ortiz against the city. In her claim she alleges that a member of the police department illegally searched a state database to see if she had a criminal history.

What might be surprising is the Council then released a statement about the closed session:

In the spirit of transparency, and as the City Council has done in other matters involving elected officials, the City Council, on a 6-0 vote, released the following statement and information regarding its denial of the claim, as permitted by the Brown Act (see Gov. Code Sec. 54963(a).)…
