City of Austin opens cooling centers ahead of dangerous heat wave

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin officials announced information about cooling centers Monday, as temperatures are expected to reach as high as 107 degrees this week.

The city’s Homeless Strategy Office sent alerts to more than 3,500 people through its text message system, providing information about cooling centers and heat safety precautions as the region faces potentially record-breaking temperatures.
