Buncombe County — Access to vital public health services has taken a significant step forward in Buncombe County with the launch of the “Public Health on Wheels” mobile unit. Rolling out in May/June 2024, this initiative by the Buncombe County Department of Health and Human Services is designed to bring essential care directly to residents, particularly those in historically underserved, low-income, and rural areas.
The mobile unit is a specially equipped, spacious recreational vehicle (RV), a considerable upgrade from previous mobile efforts. It boasts two private examination rooms, a bathroom, a phlebotomy (blood drawing) station, and is fully air-conditioned, ensuring a comfortable and confidential environment for receiving services. This expanded capacity allows for more comprehensive care delivery on the go.
