The Marco Island City Council held a special meeting May 5 to hear an “unsolicited proposal” from EarthWerks Land Improvement and Development Corporation to enter into a public-private partnership to dredge Marco Island canals and improve water quality, according to a press release.
City Council voted to authorize an independent review and technical study of the proposal by an “external engineer.”
The cost of the study will be paid by EarthWerks. The proposed cost of the canal dredging is $60 million and the full proposal is on the city’s website.
