ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A rainy day can be the perfect opportunity to take a break from mowing and give your lawnmower some much-needed TLC.
John King from Specialized Saw & Mower in Salem, Virginia gave seven expert tips on how to properly maintain your mower when there’s some down time so you’re ready to go when the grass finally dries out and you’re ready to cut again.
1. Inspect and Clean the Air Filter
The air filter is one of the most important components of your lawnmower’s engine. If it gets clogged with debris, it can cause the engine to overheat and fail. John emphasizes checking the air filter regularly to ensure it’s clear and free of dirt. If the filter is dirty or damaged, replace it right away to prevent potential engine damage.
Tip: During the rainy season, it’s especially important to check for any moisture or debris buildup that could clog the filter. A clean filter ensures the engine gets the proper air flow it needs to run smoothly.
2. Check and Maintain the Oil Level
Maintaining proper oil levels is essential to keep your mower’s engine running smoothly. Regularly check your oil to ensure it’s filled to the right level.
