Massive $1B project breaks ground in Southern Dallas just before city incentive deadline

DALLAS — With a ceremonial turn of dirt, construction began Monday on a $1 billion mixed-use development near the campus of the University of North Texas at Dallas — a major milestone in a city-incentivized project that came with councilmember skepticism.

The 270-acre University Hills project will have a mix of homes, commercial buildings and even a “potential” mixed-use stadium designed with the hope of landing a professional sports team, a release from development company Hoque Global said.

“This is a big deal,” said developer Mike Hoque. “In this economy, this deal got done. It shows it’s been a long time coming and the time is right.”…
