CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A storied history in the ring is slowly being rekindled at boxing gyms across Cincinnati, as a new generation of boxers are making a name for themselves.
The University of Cincinnati boxing team is helping to put boxing in the city back on the map. The team placed second overall in the country at the National College Boxing Association national championships and two of its boxers took home individual national championships, including a freshman, Payton Woodruff, who at 119 pounds packs a punch.
“I was nervous. I was like, man, what if I lose? But it worked out in the end,” Woodruff said. “It was great, getting handed the belt, it just felt great.”…
