Detroit recreation center reopens after $11M renovation

The Coleman A. Young Recreation Center has officially reopened after undergoing a significant $11 million renovation. The upgrades were made possible through funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) contributing $5.9 million, and an unlimited Tax General Obligation (UTGO) bond adding $5.1 million.

The recreation center opened its doors in 1980 and had been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic. Now, after years of planning and construction, the facility boasts major improvements, including:
