LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — A mother and daughter remained hospitalized Monday after they were struck by a driver in a Walmart parking lot in Largo.
In a news conference Monday, police said Cristiane Souza de Oliveira and her 6-year-old daughter, Aylla Rodrigues, were still recovering in the hospital from the May 8 incident.

Police said Lauren Howells, 32, was driving recklessly and struck the pair as they exited the Walmart store on Roosevelt Boulevard. They said the mother was thrown back by the impact, while the girl was trapped under the vehicle for approximately 500 feet as Howells attempted to flee.
Howells was accused of hitting other vehicles before leaving the area. She was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, and one count of reckless driving with serious injury.
