SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — When you think of vaudeville, Borscht Belt comedians and dressed up showgirls may come to mind. And you’d be right. But an upcoming night of comedy and burlesque here in Savannah brings a vibrant modern mix of satire, comedy and performance art to the stage, while retaining the nostalgia of days gone by.
“Marty Milquetoast Presents: Stand Up, Strip Down,” coming up Friday, May 23 at Victory North, will feature local talent familiar to many, including Marty himself. Brought to life by local performer Justin Kent, Marty embodies beloved emcees like Jack Benny and Fred Allen. Having a personality for the night’s host adds even more entertainment to the event
“When anyone asks me what to expect at our shows, I say, ‘Comedy, comedy and more comedy.’ These performances are just pure entertainment. It’s very spontaneous too. As your host for the evening, I’m seeing a lot of the performances for the first time like the audience.”
Kent says that keeps things fresh and funny. That was the case back in January when he and his crew staged their first burlesque/comedy show. “It was sold out! We were thrilled to see the support from the community and we’re happy to bring it back for a second show.”…
