Texas Democratic Party leaders on Monday voted to remove the Fort Bend County party chair after precinct chairs alleged he made more than $97,000 in unauthorized purchases and violated the organization’s bylaws.
In February, local precinct chairs passed a resolution calling for the statewide party to remove Taylor. The resolution alleges that Taylor made 42 unauthorized purchases totaling $97,866.15, refused to work with party treasurer April Jones, who later resigned, and appointed his own treasurer in violation of the bylaws.
Taylor, who was elected last year after winning a narrow runoff race, has denied allegations that he made unauthorized purchases, saying the money can be attributed to a gala whose costs were repaid by sponsors and pre-authorized automatic withdrawals…
