DENVER (KDVR) — Construction has started on one of Denver’s busiest streets, leaving parts of Colfax Avenue with concrete barriers and half a road.
While the roadwork is underway, it will be a few years before it’s completely finished.

The city of Denver started the East Colfax Avenue Bus Rapid Transit project to help move people efficiently, safely and sustainably across Colfax Avenue. By the end of the project, the city said there will be faster public transit with dedicated running ways along Colfax.
However, it’s going to take some time before it’s finished.
Colfax Avenue construction timeline
According to the city of Denver, roadwork will last until 2027.
The first and second segments start at Broadway and head east to Williams Street. These segments are fully underway, with concrete barriers, lane closures and construction along the busy roadway.
The city projects roadwork from Broadway to Williams Street to continue into 2026, but that’s not without progress. Already, the first of 32 planned bus stop arches was installed in early May.

Meanwhile, segment three, from Monroe Street to Niagara Street, will begin in 2025 and last into 2026 before it’s finished. Segments four and five from Niagara Street to Interstate 225 should start by 2026 and wrap up in 2027, marking the end of construction.
