‘I was insane!’: Palm Springs man sentenced to prison for mother’s murder, says he ‘snapped’

WEST PALM BEACH — Accused of beating his mother to death in the living room of their Palm Springs home, neither Michael Hall nor his lawyer denied it outright. Bludgeoning 53-year-old Sherri Lynn Hall was, perhaps, an “impulsive overreaction,” his attorney said in the wake of Hall’s arrest. Hall’s explanation was simpler.

“I was insane!” he shouted, on more than one occasion, in a West Palm Beach courtroom.

Prosecutors tried to bar such outbursts ahead of Hall’s May 9 murder trial. Jury selection had not yet begun by the time Hall abandoned his insanity defense and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder instead…
