A Lafayette man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on I-75 early yesterday morning. The Georgia State Patrol reports that the crash began when a tractor-trailer collided with a Hyundai Sonata in the northbound lanes. The truck then crossed the median into the southbound lanes, hitting two other semis, a Toyota Corolla, and a Ford Ranger, which caught fire. William West, 50, of Lafayette, and Christopher Powell, 23, of Okeechobee, Florida, died from their injuries. A third victim’s identity is pending. Two others are hospitalized. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
City and state leaders gathered yesterday for a groundbreaking ceremony at Dalton Municipal Airport. The event marked the start of construction on three new airplane hangars, funded by a Georgia DOT grant and local funds. The project includes a ten-bay hangar, a 60-by-60-foot hangar, and a larger 120-by-80-foot hangar, each to be built at different locations on the airport campus. Officials say the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
