Ohioan arrested after attack in The Villages sends man to hospital

An Ohio man was arrested after an attack at a home in The Villages sent another man to the hospital.

A man who had been attacked was transported by ambulance in the wee hours Monday to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital. He had barricaded himself in a bedroom at a home in The Villages and had suffered “significant injuries to his eyebrow and eye socket area,” according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He initially told deputies he had fallen in the driveway.

The man revised his account of what happened and said he had been attacked by 61-year-old Richard Grand Alexander of Mentor, Ohio, who was later identified by deputies by his Ohio driver’s license. Deputies found that Alexander and the man who had been attacked were “very intoxicated.” There was “a significant amount of blood” on the bedroom floor.

Grant had dried blood on his neck, on his head and in his hair. He had also suffered an injury to his eye. He was determined to be the primary aggressor…
