Child shooting suspect arrested after standoff at Westbank hotel

TERRYTOWN, La. (WVUE) – U.S. Marshals and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office surrounded the La Quinta hotel in Terrytown as a suspect in Monday’s shooting of an 8-year-old girl in Algiers barricaded inside.

A spokesperson says the suspect, Evans Rogers, was one of two people taken into custody at the hotel. He was wanted on a warrant for attempted second-degree murder out of New Orleans.

According to New Orleans police, the child was shot in the head during an exchange of gunfire outside an apartment building on Lawrence Street, near Elizardi Boulevard and Jo Ann Place, just before 2 p.m. on Monday (May 12).
