‘He died a hero’ | Thousands line up in the rain along the National Mall to honor fallen police officers

WASHINGTON — Despite the heavy rainfall, thousands gathered along the National Mall Tuesday night for the 37th Annual National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Candlelight Vigil, honoring police officers across the country who died in the line of duty.

One by one, families of the fallen filed into the event, many holding candles and standing solemnly as names of the officers who have died were read aloud.
