Retired private investigator talks staffing, recruitment issues after Myrtle Beach PD says it needs officers

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – Since an officer-involved shooting on Ocean Boulevard that killed one and injured 11 others in April, Myrtle Beach officials say the police department is short-staffed and trying to recruit.

“We are allotted 272 officers,” Myrtle Beach Police Chief Amy Prock said at a news conference days after the shooting. “We actually are down 50. However, we have an active recruiting unit. We have 17 conditional offers out right now.”
