Bodycam video shows aftermath of Providence police cruiser crash

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence police officer was placed on injury leave after their cruiser collided with another car early last month, 12 News has learned.

According to the incident report, the cruiser was traveling north on Courtland Street around 4:30 a.m. on April 6 when it struck a black sedan headed east on Broadway toward downtown Providence.

Body-worn camera footage obtained by 12 News shows the aftermath of the crash. Providence Press Secretary Anthony Vega clarified that the video was not recorded by the officer involved.

In the video, an officer appears to assist in freeing passengers from the sedan before examining the inside of the cruiser. The officer involved in the crash is seen lying on the ground as others ask what happened…
