Playing with a loaded gun results in woman dead, man charged with manslaughter

Prosecutors have charged a Chicago man with involuntary manslaughter, saying he is responsible for shooting and killing a woman while playing with a gun over the weekend.

Chicago police responded to a “person shot” call at a home in the 7900 block of South Essex on Saturday afternoon. They found 22-year-old Tajanae Stephens dead from a gunshot wound to her head, officials said.

Nashawn Ware, 21, who lived in the unit, was at the scene and “indicating he was a participant in” Stephens’ death, a CPD report said. Ware and Stephens were “playing with the firearm prior to the firearm discharging and striking her in the head,” according to the report…
