Mobile man sentenced to federal prison for trafficking meth

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A Mobile man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine, federal prosecutors announced this week.

U.S. District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer handed the 294-month term to Robert Leon Johnson on Monday.

The sentence stemmed from an incident on March 31, 2023, that began as a traffic stop near Johnson’s home, court documents showed. The officer initiating the stop noted that Johnson had been riding a motorcycle and traveling with a black backpack.

As the officer approached, Johnson was straightening up after bending over near the front of a vehicle park on his property, the documents revealed. Another officer arrived on the scene and spotted the black backpack stuffed under the front of that vehicle…
