E-Bike Rider Hospitalized After Collision with Car in Mira Mesa, San Diego Police Investigating

An accident at the intersection of Camino Ruiz and Carroll Canyon Road in Mira Mesa yesterday afternoon landed a 24-year-old male e-bike rider in the hospital with a serious leg injury. The collision occurred when a 31-year-old male driving a grey 2021 Hyundai Venue attempted a right turn onto the southbound lane and into the path of the oncoming e-bike rider. The victim, who was riding a Ridstar Mountain E-bike northbound in the southbound bicycle lane, was thrown from the bike, the San Diego Police Department reported.

The police said the man suffered a closed fracture to his left femur and was promptly transported to the hospital. As is it now stands, DUI has been ruled out as a cause of the accident. However, determining which party is at fault is still under investigation.
