NEAR SOUTH SIDE — A plan to redevelop a portion of a former public housing site into a mixed-income apartment complex has cleared another bureaucratic hurdle.
The city’s Community Development Commission granted permission Tuesday to the Department of Housing to sell the land at 2311-15 S. State St. to developer Southbridge 1C Housing LLC for an apartment building across the street from the site of the former Harold Ickes Homes. The project is now awaiting full City Council approval.
Plans call for 80 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units with 1,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
