Houston developer who may have faked his disappearance sentenced to prison for wire fraud

A Houston developer who allegedly tried to fake his own disappearance was sentenced Wednesday to over 51 months in federal prison for wire fraud and ordered to pay over $2 million to clients after they paid him to build homes and he used the money for lavish personal expenses instead.

Brett Michael Detamore, 40, was first indicted on federal charges last August and pleaded guilty just weeks later. Before Detamore was indicted on federal charges, he faced two lawsuits in Harris County in October of 2023 from investors who said Detamore defrauded them.

Detamore was accused in Harris County months after authorities suggested he planned his own disappearance after he went missing for a week after his car was found burned in Bear Creek Park. He was found “fazed and a bit disheveled” at a San Antonio bus stop. Detamore’s manhunt was also said to cost thousands of taxpayer dollars…
