Sugar Land City Council approves Lake Pointe Green redevelopment plan

The former headquarters for the Fluor engineering and construction firm could be home to new neighborhoods in the coming years.

New apartments, townhomes and green spaces could be coming to Sugar Land at the location of the old Fluor campus.

The Sugar Land City Council on Tuesday approved a plan for the Lake Pointe Green redevelopment project, which seeks to repurpose more than 1 million square feet of office space, parking lots and trails left behind after the engineering and construction firm left town last year.

Fluor had been headquartered in Sugar Land since the 1980s. In 2023, after the firm announced it was leaving for the Dallas area, the city council began steps to encourage redevelopment of the location. The city has been looking for new opportunities to grow as it ages, and Sugar Land officials also recently announced the city would purchase the Imperial Char House and surrounding historic district in order to redevelop that site…
