Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation and one of its programs celebrate 60 years

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3)—The Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation is one of 19 community action groups in Missouri.

It started in 1965 with just a fraction of the programs it has today. Its Head Start program was one of the first, and it came in 1966. However, the National Head Start Association also started in 1965. OACAC is celebrating both 60th anniversaries in 2025. Even after 60 years have passed, the organization’s mission holds strong.

“Community action is really important to people,” said Lindsey Dumas-Bell, OACAC’s Resource Development Manager. “We strive to help people achieve the goals that they set for themselves and just really achieve a strengthened and positive way of life, and so it’s been pretty amazing to be part of that, and I look forward to what the future holds.”…
