Driving on I-84 near Boise? Keep an eye out for these changes, detours

A project to widen and upgrade Interstate 84 in Caldwell is nearly halfway done. But as the Idaho Transportation Department tries to complete “an enormous” amount of work in the coming months, drivers should expect ramp closures and delays, the department said in a Thursday news release.

ITD warned of the following changes:

  • Starting at 10 p.m. Thursday night, the 10th Avenue westbound on-ramp will close through the end of August. Traffic will detour to the westbound on-ramp at Centennial Way.
  • Overnight on May 22, the Centennial Way westbound off-ramp at Exit 27 will close. Traffic will detour to the eastbound off-ramp, using Exit 26 to turn around.
  • From May 23 to late August, westbound traffic exiting at Centennial Way will follow a temporary ramp configuration, requiring drivers to exit early.

Drivers should also anticipate occasional nighttime lane restrictions and short-term ramp closures, according to the release. Drivers can request email or text updates about upcoming closures by texting 84CORRIDOR to 1-866-483-8422, or by emailing the department at [email protected].

The project began in late 2023. It aims to widen the road to three lanes in each direction, replace the 10th Avenue interchange and update a pedestrian overpass, among other changes, according to the release.
