ALBANY, Ore. – Albany fire officials awarded a teenager the Civilian Bravery Award for acting quickly to help save a trapped child from a house fire in March, according to the Albany Fire Department.
AFD officials said that 11-year-old Rachael Vollard was outside of her Airport Road home on March 31 when she saw smoke coming from a range vent. As the front door was locked and her younger brother was still inside the home, Vollard ran to a neighbor’s home for help where 16-year-old Juventino Santoyo immediately called 9-1-1, fire officials said.
