Albany woman pleads guilty to vehicular manslaughter

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Brittany Hawkins of Albany pleaded guilty on Friday to first-degree manslaughter for the death of Daquan Phillips. Hawkins previously pleaded not guilty back in November.

As part of her plea, Hawkins admitted to intentionally hitting Phillips with her car near Manning Boulevard and Lark Drive in Albany on October 31, 2024. Albany Police determined in the investigation that the incident was the culmination of an argument between the two, who were neighbors.

Hawkins was returned to jail without bail after Friday’s proceedings. She faces 25 years in prison and five years of probation when’s she sentenced on July 16.
