Tragedy struck Allendale Township’s Allendale Meadows mobile home community when an overnight blaze rendered a mobile home a complete loss and caused damage to neighboring residences and vehicles. The fire, reported shortly before 10:30 p.m., began with a faulty fan in one of the bedrooms, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Local first responders, including deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Grand Valley State University Police Department, swiftly initiated evacuation procedures to mitigate risk to nearby residents. In a statement obtained by FOX 17, neighbor Levi Florek recounted being alerted to the danger by a friend who had seen the fire and called 911. According to woodtv, the fire advanced rapidly, causing damage to multiple nearby homes from the intense heat and complete destruction to several vehicles.
Six different fire departments, namely Allendale Township Fire, Wright-Tallmadge Township Fire, Coopersville/Polkton Township Fire, Robinson Township Fire, Blendon Township Fire, and Georgetown Township Fire, collaborated in extinguishing the fire. Collectively, they prevented the fire from spreading further, safeguarding the surrounding community.
