Saturday, May 24th marks the 40th Rohnert Park Fishing Derby. The City of Rohnert Park put on the first nineteen. When it became public that there would be no twentieth derby, Rohnert Park citizen Ken Zschach stepped in and led the way for the next twenty derbies. He leads it for the final time on May 24th, but he has passed the torch to Brian Barrett and the Rohnert Park 20/30 Club.
The Rohnert Park 20/30 Club has been a part of the derby, serving up snow cones each year, which has been a big hit at the derby. Brian Barrett told how Zschach approached the club about a year ago presenting the idea that the club take over the derby. “We talked about it a little bit before the presentation but after hearing Ken, all the guys, everybody was on board with doing this.”
Things dovetailed nicely as the 20/30 Club had just stopped doing another event. Barrett, full of praise for Zschach, and acknowledging that the club had the capacity to put on the derby, declared, “Ken has done an amazing job giving us instructions on the step-by-step to the month and week on what needs to be done, which city department public official needs to get contacted, what resources need to be gathered to make it happen.”…
