SHREVEPORT, La. – The hot, steamy weather is officially here and kids of all ages are ready to cool off by finding the nearest pool, lake, or river. But before that happens, we at KTBS 3 and our proud sponsors want to make sure they stay as safe as possible by using a proper life jacket. That’s why we’re holding the annual Life Jacket Giveaway this weekend. It’s all part of our 2025 Freedom Fest Series.
- In Bossier, the life jackets will be given away at Barksdale Federal Credit Union on Airline Dr. (Limit 2 life jackets per car, and child must be present to receive the jacket.)
- In Shreveport they will be distributed at the Barksdale Federal Credit Union on Mansfield Rd. (Limit 2 life jackets per car, and child must be present to receive the jacket.)
- ALSO IN SHREVEPORT, you can pick up a free life jacket at Academy Sports and Outdoors, at 210 E. Bert Kouns Industrial, Shreveport. (Giveaway is inside the store.)
The giveaway begins at 9 a.m. Sizes available are Child (30–50 lbs) and Youth (50–90 lbs). They are first come, first served while supplies last.
Sadly, we’ve heard too many stories of young people drowning in area lakes and waterways and it’s not just in the ArkLaTex.
According to safekids.org, nearly 800 kids drown every year and more than half of them are under the age of 5.
Many of those could have been prevented by making sure your little one not only has on a life jacket, but also that it properly fits…
