Man acquitted of strike charges in domestic violence case

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man whose fiancée accused him of assault, alleging he strangled her and bit her cheek, was found not guilty Friday of two felony strike charges.

The jury that heard the case against Emerson Perez Urbina returned verdicts of not guilty on charges of criminal threats and domestic violence with a great bodily injury enhancement, according to a release from the Kern County Public Defender’s Office, instead convicting him of domestic violence without great bodily injury.

Sentencing is set for June 20, but Urbina’s public defender, Jennifer Melgar, plans to file a motion for a new trial based on newly-discovered evidence…
