Man waltzes into auto auction in traffic vest, drives stolen Mercedes out

In a plot twist straight out of a low-budget action flick, a man in a high-visibility vest waltzed into an auto auction and drove off in a stolen Mercedes. Spoiler: the plan immediately fell apart.

It was like a con from Ocean’s 11. Miguel Angel Dejesus-Gomez, 27, decided if he just walked into the Manheim Auto Auction in Lancaster, Pennsylvania like he owned the place, he could walk out with whatever he wanted. So during a Wednesday afternoon auction he arrived wearing a safety vest and mask. He did indeed leave with a 2023 Mercedes-Benz C300. But his getaway was anything but smooth. Police say he almost flattened three security guards on his way out. His driving only got worse from there.

That move earned him charges for robbery, criminal trespass, and recklessly endangering others—among others. Lancaster Online reported that by 3:10 p.m., Northern Lancaster County police were tracking the stolen Mercedes down Route 72.
