Cherfilus-McCormick’s former company strikes deal over $5.6M overpayment

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Trinity Healthcare, a company formerly run by Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, will spend the next 15 years repaying millions of dollars it owes the state, newly released documents show.

The four-page settlement agreement between the company and the Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM) indicates Trinity will be writing checks until 2040 to pay back $5.6 million. Trinity Healthcare, which is owned by Cherfilus-McCormick’s family, had received the money during the coronavirus pandemic for vaccination registrations and COVID-19 shots. Initial payments were slated for April and May 2025.

The state contended that FDEM mistakenly overpaid Trinity in Spring 2021, while Cherfilus-McCormick was the CEO, and the congressmember’s company never responded to its attempts to get that money back. The lawsuit stated the agency intended to pay Trinity just over $50,000 but ended up sending approximately 100 times that amount…
