Atlanta, Georgia – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across Georgia on Sunday, with some turning severe by the afternoon and early evening, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts and large hail. The greatest impacts are expected between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m., with areas from Atlanta to Savannah under a marginal risk level.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, much of north, central, and southeastern Georgia will face a Level 1 out of 5 threat for severe weather on May 18. The primary hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to one-quarter inch in diameter. Tornado chances remain very low but not zero.
Cities such as Macon, Augusta, Columbus, and Tifton could see isolated cells capable of briefly intensifying. Localized power outages and tree damage are possible where stronger wind gusts occur.
