The last time that the Foresthill Wildfires played for a Sac-Joaquin Section softball championship, head coach Madelynn Vandagriff wasn’t standing in the third base coach’s box, she was on the field. Vandagriff was a junior on the 2019 team that lost to Stone Ridge Christian in the Division VII final and lost her senior year due to COVID.
Saturday she finished what she started six years prior, coaching No. 1 Foresthill to its first softball section title with a 7-6 victory over No. 2 Denair in the D-VII championship game at Modesto Junior College.
