Historic barn to reopen this summer – was at risk of collapse after tornado strike

PORTAGE, MI — The first order of business after the May 7, 2024 tornado was to help homeowners and essential services return to normal.

A year later, the city’s attention is turning to outdoor spaces.

“Our motto is ‘A Natural Place to Move,’ with logos that symbolize our commitment to our natural spaces and to a robust and engaging park system,” said city COO Adam Herringa. “To have some of them take a direct hit from the tornado was really hard to see.”…
