Las Vegas continues to wrestle with its ongoing traffic-related fatality crisis as the city records its 68th death this year. The latest incident, a severe vehicle collision, occurred at the intersection of West Gomer Road and South Cimarron Road. According to a report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, reckless driving seems to be the cause.
At around 8:03 p.m. on Thursday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call of an accident involving a 2015 Nissan Altima and a 2024 Ram 2500. The Altima, driving eastbound on Gomer Road, ran through the stop sign at an unsafe speed, colliding with the Ram truck, which was entering the intersection after stopping, according to the police. The driver of the Nissan, a 40-year-old woman from Las Vegas, sustained life-threatening injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the UMC Trauma Center.
The 32-year-old male driver of the Ram truck, identified by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as Michael Rangel, suffered only minor injuries from the accident.
