Readers respond: Government accountability for budget shortfalls

When I hear the words budget shortfall, I think about the Washington County sewer district executives and their luxury trips to Hawaii, (“Washington County sewer CEO resigns following Oregonian investigation,” May 8). How about some accountability from the cities, the schools and all the government entities who claim to be out of money?

Each month, as soon as the bank accounts are reconciled, all these agencies need to publish, in the local newspapers, their profit and loss statement, their balance sheet and their current budget. They say they are transparent; they need to prove it.

It’s quite easy to balance a budget when you don’t waste money…
