Two Arizona mothers are facing serious consequences after allegedly leaving their young children unattended in a parking lot while they went drinking at a nearby bar.
Police Find Children Alone in Car with Marijuana Inside
The Glendale Police Department released bodycam footage from the incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. on March 8. Officers responded to a call about a toddler wandering alone in the lot. Concerned witnesses tried to locate the child’s parents but found no adults nearby.
The young girl eventually led witnesses to a nearby car, where three more children were sitting inside—two of them strapped into car seats. The vehicle was unlocked. When officers searched the car, they discovered a large bag of marijuana. “Seriously?” one officer said in disbelief, as the sound of crying children filled the background.
Moms Return Nearly an Hour Later
Roughly 45 minutes after officers arrived, the two mothers returned to the vehicle. When questioned, one of them responded with shock after being told the kids had been there for “hours.” Both women initially claimed they had only stepped away to use the restroom.
However, further questioning revealed they had gone into Salt Tacos y Tequila, a local bar, where at least one of the women admitted to having a drink. The second mother, slurring her words, struggled to explain how long she had been inside. “Uhhhhh, 15 minutes ago?” she replied.
Arrests Made, Children Taken to Hospital
Officers reported that both women smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. They were arrested at the scene. The children were transported to a nearby hospital by the fire department as a precaution.
One mother, overcome with emotion, pleaded with officers, “Please don’t take my kids away from me. Like seriously, they’re the only things I’ve got. I know this is super, super bad.”…
