SWAT team responds to house fire and standoff in SW Bakersfield, 1 arrested

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A tense standoff unfolded Monday afternoon on Black Knot Court in southwest Bakersfield, as SWAT teams and crisis negotiators were called to a house fire incident. A woman was arrested, said a Bakersfield police official.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, at around 2 p.m., they were called to assist a Kern County Fire arson investigation when the situation escalated.

During the standoff in the area of Black Knot Court and Mariana Way, the suspect reportedly claimed to have a weapon and began a countdown, threatening to ignite the house. As the countdown concluded, the house caught fire. The suspect then fled out the back of the house, where officers used force to take her into custody.

Police said she ignited multiple trash cans on fire with a flammable liquid. No explosives were found…
