‘Any Ohioan that goes into one of these is at risk’: The crackdown on illegal casinos

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – It’s a covert operation hidden in plain sight. These businesses advertise big wins, but one Ohio official says the only outcome is a major loss.

He’s talking about illegal casinos. It’s an issue that is happening across the state, including Northwest Ohio. Last fall, a Toledo business on Reynolds Road and two businesses in Oregon were raided for allegedly operating as illegal casinos.

Since 2015, the Ohio Casino Control Commission has confiscated or disabled 7,500 slot machines. That’s more than two each day on average, and 1,500 more than all of the slot machines at Ohio’s four legal casinos combined…
